The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General Waidi Shaibu, has charged troops of the 6 Division of Nigerian Army not to relent in sustaining security across the country, particularly in the Niger Delta, to support increased oil production and protect critical national assets.
General Shaibu gave the charge while addressing officers and soldiers at the 29 Battalion Parade Ground during his maiden operational visit to the headquarters of 6 Division in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The COAS reassured the troops that their welfare remained a top priority under his leadership, stressing that deliberate efforts are being made to address operational and welfare-related challenges confronting personnel.
He said since assuming office, he had embarked on visits to various formations and units to assess their operational readiness firsthand and gain deeper insight into their challenges, with a view to providing practical solutions.
According to him, the Nigerian Army will continue to place a high premium on the welfare of officers, soldiers, and their families, noting that improved welfare is critical to morale and operational effectiveness. Shaibu urged the troops to remain disciplined, committed, and dedicated to the discharge of their responsibilities, particularly in protecting critical national infrastructure in line with the Division’s mandate and his command philosophy.
“Let me assure you that the Nigerian Army will take care of your workrelated issues, which is our topmost priority. You will get what you deserve and what you are entitled to. This will go a long way in mitigating some of the accommodation challenges,” he said. Earlier, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, said the sivision’s troops were battle-ready and fully prepared to discharge their constitutional mandate.
